FAQs

1 / What is Hypnobirthing?

First and foremost, Hypnobirthing is a full antenatal education, providing you with SO much useful information about birth. So that no matter what course your labour takes, you will feel empowered and super prepared. & as I say in all of my classes – KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Hypnobirthing also arms you with so many useful tools that help encourage the production of super helpful hormones such as oxytocin, which is proven to help encourage the natural flow of labour and reduce the likelihood of intervention. We’re talking birth breathing, guided relaxation tracks, touch tools, positive birth statements & positive birth stories. A complete toolkit that will become your best friend during birth.

2 / How does it work?

Hypnobirthing provides you with tools and techniques not only to help keep you calm, but also to encourage the production of helpful hormones such as oxytocin (the love hormone) which help labour to progress at a natural pace and reduce the likelihood of intervention. As soon as you start to panic, your body goes into a state of fight or flight and begins releasing adrenaline which is proven to slow down and stall labour. Our aim is to encourage the flow of all those helpful hormones, keeping you calm and confident throughout your birth experience.

3 / When is the best time to do Hypnobirthing?

You can take a Hypnobirthing course anytime throughout your pregnancy. The longer you have to work with the tools the better, but if you find me later on in your pregnancy that won't be a problem either.

4 / Is Hypnobirthing just for pregnant women, or can birth partners join too?

I would always encourage birth partners to be a part of the Hypnobirthing experience, as firstly it helps them to feel more involved. If they learn the tools with you, they can help support you with them during labour. We also cover all possible eventualities during a full course, so if they know what to expect that can be really helfpul.

5 / What if I want pain relief? Can I still do Hypnobirthing?

Of course you can! Hypnobirthing is all about making you feel most comfortable, and if opting for pain relief helps keep you calm then by all means go for it. It's your body, your choice. Hypnobirthing is not a specific type of birth. You can be induced and still have a Hypnobirthing experience. You can opt for pain relief and still have a Hypnobirthing experience. You can have a caesarean birth and still have a Hypnobirthing experience. Hypnobirthing is not just for those planning an unmedicated vaginal birth with zero intervention. Hypnobirthing is for EVERYONE.

6 / What if I have had a traumatic birth experience in the past? Can Hypnobirthing still be beneficial?

Absolutely! It’s not about discrediting traumatic experiences – It’s about honouring them and showing that there can be a more positive side to birth. When you've had a tricky experience in the past, it's natural to feel fearful the next time round - Hypnobirthing is all about rebuilding your confidence when it comes to birth, and creating a toolkit that you can draw on to help keep you as comfortable as possible. Just because you have had a difficult birth in the past, doesn't mean to say your next experience will be the same.

(If you're reading this having experienced a traumatic birth in the past, know that I am sending you so much love & light, and if I can support you in any way going forward into your next birth please let me know).
